In Spring 2024, we are so excited to be performing a special concert program that has been created to honour and celebrate the Japanese community in Victoria.

Titled ‘Sakura: Songs from the Tree of Life‘, the concert features beautiful music by Japanese, Japanese-Canadian, and Canadian and European composers and poets on the themes of beauty, truth, forgiveness, and love.

The Newcombe Singers extend a very warm welcome to anyone in the community who might like to join the choir and participate in this concert. All voices are welcome without audition.

This will be an exceptionally beautiful concert, made all the more so through our collaboration with the Victoria Nikkei Cultural Society.

Music will include pieces by John Rutter, Bob Chilcott, Cait Nishimura, Larry Nickel, Imant Raminsh, Clara Schumann, Orlando Lasso, Akiko Kondo, Ro Ogura, and featuring the world premiere of a new setting by Ramona Luengen of the poem “How the Blossoms are Falling” by Joy Kogawa.
